Our Story

One kitchen becomes two.

Chef Dipak Shahi opened the first Taste of the Himalayas in Point Loma in 2012, carrying recipes he'd learned growing up between Nepal and Darjeeling — slow-simmered curries, charcoal-grilled sekuwa, momos folded by hand.

The Hillcrest location cooks from the same spice blends and the same family recipe book. What's different is the neighborhood: Hillcrest is San Diego's most walkable, most colorful corner of town, and we wanted a dining room that felt like it belonged here — warm, unpretentious, and glad to see you.

Every table setting nods to the five colors of a Himalayan prayer flag — sky, wind, fire, water, earth. It's an old symbol of good fortune for all who pass beneath it, which felt right for a street known for welcoming everybody.
